In this blog post we will look at why you should use WordPress for your business website.
Unlike some CMS WordPress is free, there are no hefty software licenses, you are free to download it, modify it and use for any type of website. Some content management systems charge a yearly fee just to use, this is before any work can start on your site.
It’s not uncommon for a CMS to cost £20,000+ a year just to use the software that your website runs on.
Easy to use
We have trained countless clients on their new website taking them from having no knowledge at all to being confident in using a new website within an hour. WordPress is easy to use, it is laid out well and unlike other CMS the learning curve is short.
WordPress is adaptable
All of our websites here at Weeare are custom made on top of the WordPress CMS, this allows them to be quick, easy to use and search engine friendly. By using WordPress we can expand on the core functionality of a website by using WordPress plugins. A WordPress plugin allows us to use other pre built software to add additional features to your site without charging you for the additional programming that a custom solution would cost.
For example, a restaurant booking system custom build could cost £10,000 to £100,000+ where as by using existing software the build time and costs can be cut down while not compromising on functionality.
If your website is designed and developed correctly then WordPress can be search friendly. Recently we took a look at how a custom built website on WordPress vs. a WordPress template compared in ranking in the search engines, you can take a look at the results here.
Even though both sites are built on WordPress one performs alot better as its been built with no junk code.
WordPress is secure
WordPress is developed to be as secure as possible, however there have been incidents where sites have been hacked. But that’s real life, all websites can be hacked.
If you are concerned about website security and you should be you will be glad to know that there are some great security plugins out there which can be added to your site to increase your websites protection. You can protect your site from brute force logins, you can ban certain IP addresses and you can limit where your site is accessed from.
As we mentioned in the beginning of this article WordPress has amazing flexibility, it can be used as:
• A blog
• A ecommerce store
• A gallery
• Portfolio site
• Business Website
• Rating Website
• Membership Site
WordPress is not the only CMS out there, you could consider other options such as Joomla, Drupal, Umbraco and many more. Each of the mentioned CMS have advantages and disadvantages, and is WordPress better or worse? I think the answer will come down to personal preference. Personally we like to develop on WordPress because it doesn’t have any license fees, its Open Source, user-friendly and flexible.
